Ron moved to Columbus in 1974 managing a company store for Valmont Industries, selling and servicing center pivots. In 1987, he went into the insurance business from which he retired in 2006.
Ron has been involved with youth most of his adult life, having coached baseball for 42 years, umpired for 33 years, and managed the Columbus Youth Baseball Association for 10 years; putting 300 plus kids on teams and securing coaches and equipment for 26 to 28 teams.
He was appointed and elected to the Columbus Public Schools Board of Education serving for 13 years and was elected president of the board for two years. He was also elected to the Nebraska School Board Association and served two terms. He was elected to the City Council in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. He has served as City Council President and as Chair of the Public Finance, Judiciary and Personnel Committee. He currently serves on the Public Property, Safety, and Works Committee, and is a member of the Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging Committee.
Ron is a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Columbus Optimist Club. His hobbies include golf and more golf, and also watching his grandkids play sports.
